William Gibson Kelleher, or Bill Kelleher, was the husband of April Kelleher and a biochemist at Sequent Biotech Group. He was killed by a paramilitary hit squad during the initial outbreak of Green Poison in New York City, prompting his wife to investigate the reasons behind his murder.
Biography[]
Bill Kelleher lived in Brooklyn with his wife of six years, April. For her birthday, Bill once gave her a copy of the book New York Collapse by Warren Merchant as a novelty gift. He was also a college football enthusiast, particularly for the University of Michigan.
Kelleher was a biochemist working for Sequent Biotech Group (SBGx), and commuted daily to their offices in lower Manhattan. He was part of a team experimenting with broad-spectrum antivirals (BSAVs), a new vaccine design that would be able to encompass multiple mutations of a particular virus.
Tom Clancy's The Division: New York Collapse[]
On December 3, panic spread in New York as the first victims of Green Poison began showing symptoms. April attempted to call her husband at work, but was unable to reach him. She then traveled to Manhattan in person to find Bill and persuade him to return home until the crisis abated.
As she approached the SBGx offices, two cars stopped in front, filled with armed men in suits. Bill and two other people then ran out of the building, followed by paramilitary operatives in black fatigues. A firefight broke out, and Bill was shot and killed; when April approached, the operatives held her at gunpoint, loaded Bill's body into a stolen car, and fled.
Police arrived and taped off the crime scene, but April later discovered that there were no reports of a homicide incident in that area, and federal authorities were too overwhelmed by the epidemic to properly investigate his death. Shortly afterwards, the island of Manhattan was placed under quarantine, leaving April stranded amidst the chaos.
Over the next several days, she began recording a journal of recent events in her copy of New York Collapse, including Bill's murder, as well as deciphering clues hidden in the book's pages.
Tom Clancy's The Division: Broken Dawn[]
Five months after the initial outbreak, April Kelleher's investigation ultimately led her to the Dark Zone, where she met New York Collapse's author, Roger Koopman--the true identity of Warren Merchant. Koopman theorized that Bill had been murdered for his BSAV research, which could have helped combat the Green Poison. However, using her husband's research and a vaccine created by Dr. Jessica Kandel, samples of a cure had been produced at a lab in Ann Arbor, Michigan. April immediately resolved to travel to Ann Arbor.
After a journey, April eventually reached the labs at the University of Michigan, accompanied by two Strategic Homeland Division agents, Aurelio Diaz and Ike Ronson. There they met Dr. Kavita Chandrasekhar, who gave condolences for Bill and credited his research with helping to synthesize BSAVs that could cure the Green Poison. Learning that her husband's death had meaning finally gave April renewed hope for the future.

- Kelleher claimed that his middle name, Gibson, was chosen by his father as an homage to Kirk Gibson, the baseball player who won the 1988 World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
