The Division Wiki

Brooklyn is an area showcased in the E3 2013 demo showcase for Tom Clancy's The Division, and a playable area in the beginning of the game. Two areas of Brooklyn, namely; Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights, are playable areas in Tom Clancy's The Division 2: Battle for Brooklyn.

Before the catastrophic outbreak of the Green Poison, Brooklyn was a bustling hub of culture, history, and community, known for its diverse neighborhoods, iconic brownstones, and landmarks like the Brooklyn Bridge and Coney Island.

In the months since the outbreak, Brooklyn stayed in relative peace, while civilians built new settlements. Unfortunately, this peace wouldn't last with the Cleaners attacking Brooklyn, unleasing their new accelerant that burns purple flames.

The Green Poison Outbreak[]

When the Green Poison unleashed on Black Friday, Brooklyn was hit hard. The virus, spread via contaminated banknotes, tore through crowded markets, subway stations, and holiday gatherings.

Within days, hospitals like Kings County Medical Center were overwhelmed. Their halls choked with the sick and dying. Makeshift quarantine zones, hastily erected in schools and community centers, fail to contain the outbreak. The borough's infrastructure crumbles as essential services - electricity, water, and sanitation - collapse under the strain of mass panic and dwindling manpower. Police and emergency services, stretched beyond their limits, are unable to maintain order. Neighborhoods like Brooklyn Heights, Red Hook, and Clinton Hill descend into lawlessness as fear and desperation grip the population.

The federal government activates the Strategic Homeland Division, a sleeper cell of highly trained agents, to restore order and uncover the origins of the virus. Brooklyn becomes a critical staging ground for these agents, who are deployed to secure key locations, rescue survivors, and confront the growing threat of hostile factions. However, the borough is already a battleground, and among the chaos, a new threat emerges: the Rioters.

Events in Tom Clancy's The Division[]

Brooklyn serves as a small tutorial map for the player, with only a small section of the map playable. Here the player learns the basic controls of the game, they complete four missions where they capture containers of food and medical supplies that were stolen by Rioters. As they are about to board the Division VTOL, an LMB surface-to-air missile destroys the VTOL and the player is knocked out, killing most of the Second Wave Division agents on board, (it is unknown if they were all the Second Wave Division agents.), including the Division Commander except the player and another agent named Faye Lau. A JTF helicopter lands and takes them to Camp Hudson in Manhattan.

Precinct Siege[]

After completing the Side Missions Side Missions for JTF Officer Martin Hazen to stabilize Northern Brooklyn, the Division Agent was called by Division Commander Louis Chang in response to a distress signal from the Brooklyn Police Station, which was under attack by Rioters.

The Agent fought through the parking lot and garage, rescued hostages inside the precinct, cleared the upper floors, and eliminated the Rioter leader named Ripper on the rooftop. Once the precinct was secured, the Agent exited the building and headed to an evacuation point en route to Manhattan.

During extraction, however, the VTOL aircraft was destroyed by a missile in a sudden and suspicious explosion, killing Commander Chang and severely wounding Agent Faye Lau. A Division response team was deployed shortly after, setting the stage for the Agent's mission in Manhattan to investigate the "Dollar Flu" pandemic and restore order in the collapsing city.

Events in Tom Clancy's The Division 2[]

Compared to Manhattan, the situation in Brooklyn wasn't chaotic in the months after the Green Poison outbreak. In fact, many civilians who wanted to escape the chaos in Lower Manhattan were given help by Aaron Keener and his team to cross the river and reach Brooklyn, so they can live in relative peace.

The Bridge settlement[]

With help from Keener, Theo Parnell, and Agent Melanie Hoskins, the civilians would come together to form a settlement near the broken Brooklyn Bridge and called it; The Bridge. Many civilians were recruited there, including Maral McCarthy as the social director, Rodney Bishop as supplies logistics, and Sarah Moretti and her family. Dr. Kandel was recruited there for safety, as she survived the events that happened at Ann Arbor.

At one time, Keener and his best friend Bridgette Douglas discussed recruiting some of the civilians from the Castle, though that fell through, as those members are still there.

Rikers crossing the river[]

Many Rikers crossed the river and managed to get to Brooklyn, delighted that Dragov was true to his word. Though some were given the option to make a clean new slate by joining the Bridge, they preferred to stay within the gang. The Rikers and The Bridge held an amicable truce, where they'd not cause each other problems as long as they're out of each other's reach.

By then, the Rikers set up shop in Brooklyn Heights. However, with Dragov killed, they were in disarray, with different groups. One Riker killed a man and his daughter.

Ironically enough, ⁣ the Rikers would find itself rallied once again by a woman who lost her husband and daughter by the same faction; Sarah Moretti. After she became disillusioned with The Bridge, Sarah left the settlement and gruesomely killed the Riker responsible, declaring her new worldview and what happens when someone steps out of line. From there, Sarah shed her old self and became known as "The Rat Queen".

Cleaners on Long Island[]

At some point, the Cleaners managed to cross to Brooklyn and set up there. Unfortunately for them, their presence was small and didn't have much to cause huge problems.

Luckily for them, they'd find help from a benefactor.

Black Tusk's operation[]

Black Tusk got interested in Brooklyn not simply for territory, but due to the rumors that Amherst's Printer is held somewhere. Where they got that rumor is unknown. Regardless, Black Tusk officer, Richard Danvers, was put in charge of the operation where he'd set up a site in The Army Terminal compound and got to work in recruiting both Cleaners and Rikers.

Danvers acted as the new leader of the Cleaners and made contact with former SFX artist, Matthew Grant, who'd recruit him to make use of his movie set in Dumbo State Park, to create deepfake videos using tech loaned from Descent simulation program, where they'd have an actor depict Aaron Keener as a megalomaniacal murderer as propaganda against the Rogue Agent and the Bridge settlement.

Moreover, Danvers helps the Cleaners in manufacturing a new accelerant that burns a purple flame. Its potency comes from the fact that it corrodes armor, which would allow them to subdue defenses like armor and turrets.

At some point, Danvers would recruit Sarah Moretti to act as an asset for Black Tusk and have her Rikers cause damage in Brooklyn. Sarah accepted, as she wanted revenge on the Bridge, seeing its people living in a delusional fantasy. With help from Grant and Danvers, she had them fake her death, so no one from The Bridge can suspect where she's gone. And more importantly, she had them install a voice modulator on herself, to prevent voice recognition software from compromising her identity.

Given Sarah's involvement in creating the power grid for the Bridge and Theo Parnell's secret projects (Like the friendly Marauder he dubbed "Viper"), she confirmed to Danvers that Amherst's printer is held in an underground vault. She couldn't get it due to Parnell having the key in his custody, though she heard that he gave it to Dr. Jessica Kandel, where they'll wait for the right time for Parnell to leave Brooklyn.

Still, Sarah managed to steal at least one Rogue SHD Tech crate with its tech later loaned to The Lovebirds, and no one from The Bridge suspecting a missing crate. This allowed Danvers and his Cleaners to initiate the attack on Meret Estate, both as a test-run for the new "Purple Flame" and to take Mackenzie "Mack" Meret.

Attack on The Meret Estate[]

With Wright and The Lovebirds in command, the Cleaners in Long Island attacked Meret Estate in huge numbers, causing massive devastation to the area. Unfortunately for them, a team of four Division agents from D.C. intercepted the distress call and stopped the Cleaners, eliminated both Wright and The Lovebirds, saving Mack and the rest of her surviving community in the process.

Despite the loss of Wright and The Lovebirds and not recovering Mack, the test-run for the "Purple Flame" was a success. The Cleaners went to work in mass-producing it in the H5 Refinery.

Rikers recruited/Intercepting Dr. Kandel[]

The Rikers were impressed by the footage of what they saw in Meret Estate, and were willing to help their "Rat Queen" in her mission. As such, Danvers would have them set up a supply depot underneath the Clarke Street Hotel, a SAM site on Bridge Park Pier, and turret defenses across their stronghold, The Art Museum.

With Sarah's previous experience as an electrical engineer for The Bridge, Danvers had her and a small contingent of Rikers on its standby to attack the settlement and compromise its defenses when it is the right time.

Meanwhile, Danvers had sent Cleaners to intercept Dr. Jessica Kandel to capture her for the vault key.

Unluckily for Black Tusk, Cleaners, and Rikers, they'd soon meet their folly when D.C Division agents answer a distress call from Agent Hoskins.

Battle for Brooklyn[]

D.C Agents arrived in Brooklyn, where they went to One Police Plaza to rescue Dr. Kandel from the Cleaners. Although her security guards were killed, the agents managed to eliminate the Cleaners and rescued the doctor, escorting her back to The Bridge.

There wasn't a time to rest, however, as the agents would head to the nearby CERA Clinic that was under attack by Cleaners as well. Sadly, all the staff working there were killed. In revenge, the agents killed all the Cleaners, including the commander in charge of the attack, Stewart. Despite the losses, the Bridge's militia procured any surviving equipment from the clinic for their med-bay.

While Agent Hoskins tries to find a lead on where the Cleaners are producing their purple flame, the agents got busy in dismantling their operation in Dumbo Skate Park. After eliminating Hollings and his contingent, they'd learn the Cleaners were protecting a movie set that Matthew Grant was using to create deep-fake videos as propaganda campaign against Aaron Keener and The Bridge settlement.

Attack on The Refinery[]

With help from Hoskins, the Division found where the Cleaners are mass-producing their "Purple Flame"; The H5 Refinery. The agents went to the refinery to dismantle their operation and stop their production. After that was done, however, the agents were on the clock as the refinery was set to self-destruct and tried to stabilize it, and killing the Cleaner Commander, Jasinski, in the process.

Sadly, they were forced to abandon the refinery to its fate as the Bridge settlement was under attack by the Rikers, and took the helo to protect it.

The Bridge, attacked[]

As they made it back to Brooklyn, the D.C Division agents fought their way against many Rikers in their way. The situation in the Bridge was bad, as their defenses were compromised, and a dozen inhabitants were killed during the attack. Fortunately, the agents triumphed, forcing the Rat Queen and her Rikers to retreat

Right after they saved the settlement, Theo Parnell came to Brooklyn to assist the agents in their mission, which included activating a friendly Marauder drone dubbed "Viper".

The Rikers attack on the Bridge wouldn't go unanswered, as the agents with help from Parnell, would head to Brooklyn Heights to assault Riker territories and find a lead on the Rat Queen.

Attack on The Rikers[]

The Division launched their attack on two specific places in Brooklyn Heights; Clarke Street Hotel and Bridge Park Pier. Starting with the Hotel, the agents fought their way through, where they rescued a few Bridge members, and get intel on a Riker supply depot in the subway underneath the hotel as well as learning that the convicts took over the Pier using the ID cards they stole from Bridge members they've killed, using the place to set up SAM launchers.

Still, the agents focused on destroying the subway depot, which they managed to do after eliminating a high-ranking Riker named Auto and his contigent of Rikers in the process.

Next up was the Pier, so the agents head there, disabling the SAM launchers as they could. Due to the complexity of their mission and the constant Riker reinforcement, however, Theo Parnell sent his Marauder "Viper" to help destroy one SAM launcher, at the very least. And due to the Marauder sustaining damage, Parnell was forced to pull back and send it back to the settlement for repairs

Eventually, the agents managed to destroy the final two launchers, eliminating Bombshell, the Riker in charge of them, and her Rikers fellas in the process.

With those two locations secured, Rat Queen's location was finally located, at The Art Museum.

Subduing The Rat Queen[]

With Parnell's coordinating, the agents head to the Art Museum, eliminating any Riker that stood in their way and destroying their defenses. After killing two of the Rat Queen's lieutenants, the agents stumbled on an ECHO which revealed a shocking truth. Sarah Moretti wasn't really dead, she's in fact the Rat Queen herself, and she deliberately faked her death with help from Danvers and Grant, intent to take revenge on the Bridge settlement and Theo.

This upset Parnell heavily, knowing his former friend was the psychotic leader of the Rikers. Thus, he ordered the agents to apprehend Sarah, as he wanted answers. The agents killed the last two of Rat Queen's lieutenants and confronted Sarah in the rooftops. However, she was protected by an electronic shield that made her immune from conventional firepower and her Rikers to protect her flank.

As such, the agents got busy dealing with the Rikers and disabling the shield through turning on the generators and using the computer on the middle to cause an EMP discharge. Sarah's shield was disabled permanently by the second attempt, allowing the agents to apprehend her after they put sustainable damage on her. And with the Bridge members called in to take Sarah in and stabilize her, they'd take her to the settlement's underground cell for interrogation.

Sarah was willing to talk, and informed both Parnell and Hoskins that Danvers is held up in The Army Terminal. Despite there's no guarantee of his location, they decided to go in and end the reign of terror that he unleashed in Brooklyn.

Army Terminal[]

The Division made it to the Army Terminal's perimeter, decimating the Cleaner defenses along the way, and Danvers was confirmed to be located there thanks to intercepting hostile communcations. However, as they got deeper into the compound, they'd stumble to a Black Tusk R&D site, which at least explained the presence of Warhound "Violet" in the refinery and Rat Queen's electric shield. Fighting their way through, the agents secured a small nuclear reactor, and recovering intel revealing that Black Tusk's site is involved in developing "Purple Flame" for their Flamethrower Warhounds, in addition to shipping the accelerant outside of New York.

Even with tauntings from Danvers, the agents kept fighting against hostiles as they followed the powerline that led them to the rooftops, which revealed a massive armored Zeppelin, armed with cannons that fires "Purple Flame" bombs and three Razorback stations that can deploy Striker drones.

With the Zeppelin already lifted off and heading to attack the Bridge, the agents focused on hacking the SAM launchers with ANNA's help while dealing with Black Tusk soldiers trying to stop them. In desperation, Danvers deployed an LM-21 "Marauder", which has a laser instead of a minigun, but it also proved no match.

Eventually, all three SAM launchers were hacked, and the agents deployed them towards the Zeppelin. The missiles managed to damage the aircraft enough to cause it crashing towards the sea, killing Danvers in the process.

With Danvers dead, the Division managed to stop Black Tusk from decimating the settlement and avenging the losses they took. However, the intel they'd find at the laptop nearby paints a wider picture of the whole conflict in Brooklyn.

The Printer[]

The intel that Division agents recovered involved a Drone surveillance footage of Danvers and Sarah discussing Amherst's printer, which Sarah couldn't steal due to it being locked in a vault. And the only way they can do that is if Dr. Jessica Kandel had the key, which just so happened she had it at the time of their discussion. They just needed the right time to take action, which happened to be when Theo Parnell left Brooklyn.

Obviously, Agent Hoskins was livid with Parnell over the fact that not only they have the printer hidden in The Bridge, but also that he kept her in the dark when he gave her the vault key. Her concern was that keeping the Printer with them would put the settlement in constant danger. Meanwhile, Kandel made it clear that Printer should be used only for creating the vaccines and medical research, and she threatened to leave if the Printer is used for developing a bioweapon.

Given all that's happened, it was clear that Black Tusk instigated this whole conflict to take Amherst's Printer and use it to develop a bioweapon as detterence against any settlement that doesn't bend the knee to them. And with the Perfusion Bioreactor in their hands as well, they have a monopoly for vaccines, which they can use as extortion, with the condition that said settlements submits to them.

And with the Printer kept in the vault, the Bridge must prepare themselves for the battles ahead.

Trivia[]

  • Even though it was an extremely early build of the game, the E3 2013 trailer showed Brooklyn as a full playable map with a Dark Zone. Locations would have included an emergency office, the Brooklyn War Memorial, the Carousel, Brooklyn Zoo, and the Dumbo Ferry. Other locations shown on the map were the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridge.
  • It is also worth noting that the first mission of the game, Precinct Siege, appears in this demo.
  • Again, it should also be said that parts of Queens was shown being connected to Brooklyn at the end of the video. However, most likely this was all concept due to Queens never appearing in the final version of the game.
