History[]

Like its full-length cousin, the Double Barrel Sawed Off in Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is based on the L.C. Smith 12 Gauge, a break-open shotgun model dating back to the 1900s.

Shotguns barrels can either be modified or manufactured for shorter length, reducing its muzzle velocity in favor of concealment and close-quarters use. They are popular with both law enforcement and criminal enterprises, either for combat or breaching doors and locks. For this reason, various countries impose minimum barrel lengths for shotguns or require special permits to shorten beyond a certain length.

Usage[]

Statistically, the Double Barrel Sawed Off is similar to the full-length Double Barrel Shotgun, and serves much the same purpose: obliterating un-armored targets at mid- to close-range. The ability to empty both barrels in under a second results in superb damage for Sidearm, but its slow reload leaves little room for error: if its first two shells fail to stop an approaching Rusher, there likely won't be time to load and fire a third.

This makes it best used from cover, popping out to blast enemies before ducking into safety to either reload or switch to a Primary Weapon for longer-range firefights. As a last-resort weapon when low on ammunition, however, it's typically inferior to a versatile semi-automatic handgun or revolver.
