History[]
The Double Barrel Shotgun in Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is based on the L.C. Smith 12 Gauge, a break-open shotgun model dating back to the 1900s.
Unlike modern side-by-side shotguns, which feature single selective triggers (SSTs), the antique L.C. Smith features a separate trigger for each barrel, making it possible - though unwise - to fire both barrels simultaneously. Once favored by hunters and ranchers, the gun's delicate wooden furniture is prone to splitting over the decades, making intact examples valuable collector's items.
Usage[]
The Double Barrel Shotgun deals the highest damage of any Shotgun and can easily kill most targets with two consecutive blasts, but frequently leaves its wielder vulnerable afterwards. Having to spare several seconds to reload between volleys is risky - enemies are rarely alone, and even efficiently scoring two kills with both barrels gives the survivors plenty of time to flee, return fire, or close in for a melee strike.
This makes it best used from cover, popping out to blast an enemy before ducking into safety to either reload or switch to a Sidearm to finish them off. The Double Barrel Shotgun is an up-close powerhouse that should be reserved for emergencies, rather than used as a main weapon.
