The Flare Gun is a Survival Item featured in Tom Clancy's The Division and Tom Clancy's The Division 2.
It is carried by Strategic Homeland Division agents to communicate with allies in the field, either to call for Joint Task Force helicopters or request support from Civilian Militia, by firing colored signal flares. It cannot be equipped as a weapon.
Gameplay[]
Tom Clancy's The Division[]
The Flare Gun is primarily used to call for helicopters in the Dark Zone to extract contaminated items. It can only be fired within an Extraction Area with open-air access, spawning several enemies and beginning a 90-second timer before an extraction helicopter arrives. Any Division agents nearby will be alerted by the loud noise and brightly colored flare, and every agent in the Dark Zone will receive an alert on their HUD and map.
Upon arrival, the helicopter will deploy a rope near where the Flare Gun was fired. Agents can either attach their contaminated items to the rope or cut it loose, causing all attached items to drop and marking the player as a rogue. Cutting the rope will cause the helicopter to leave immediately, requiring the Flare Gun to be fired again.
Survival[]
The Flare Gun is a critical item in Survival, as it is the only way to signal for an extraction helicopter and escape the Dark Zone. Agents must craft a Flare Gun using 2x
Weapon Parts and 1x
Division Tech at a Crafting Table, receive one from another agent, or wait for another agent to call for extraction.
Firing the Flare Gun within an Extraction Zone will begin a three-minute timer for the helicopter to arrive, and also triggers the appearance of Hunters nearby. The amount of Hunters that appear corresponds to the number of players present when the Flare Gun is fired; if more agents arrive at the Extraction Zone afterwards, additional Hunters will spawn to compensate. All Hunters must be defeated before extraction is possible. If the Hunters are not defeated before the helicopter leaves or the agent cannot board the vehicle, they must call for extraction again; however, they can re-use the same Flare Gun, and will not need to fight more Hunters.
"Flare Gun Crafted" is a Mission-category objective that awards 500 points to an agent's post-game Survival Score.
Tom Clancy's The Division 2[]
Like in Tom Clancy's The Division, the Flare Gun is still used to call for helicopters to extract contaminated items from one of Washington D.C.'s three Dark Zones or high-value assets during certain Main Missions, such as President Ellis's briefcase at the Capitol Building or antiviral cylinders at Tidal Basin.
However, it is now also used to call for reinforcements from Civilian Militia while inside the boundaries of a Control Point with open-air access. Firing the Flare Gun will alert all enemies in the Control Point and signal a group of friendly Civilian NPCs, led by a Militia Officer, to begin moving towards the contested area, with their distance to the Control Point marked on an agent's HUD.
If the Flare Gun is fired before a Control Point has been cleared, there is a chance Rogue Agents will appear and attack the Control Point once it has been captured.
Trivia[]
- The Flare Gun is modeled after the real-life Heckler & Koch P2A1 Flare Pistol.
