Janis McGee is a supporting character in Tom Clancy's The Division: Remission.

Biography[]

Janis McGee grew up in Yorktown, Virginia, with her brother David, and their alcoholic father, Dick. During her childhood, Dick divorced her mother and was granted full custody of David, due to his friendship with the presiding judge. Her mother later filed a suit to regain custody of her son, but made no progress. Janis often tried to protect her brother from Dick's physical abuse.

At school, Janis gained a reputation as a violent delinquent with a resentment towards authority. One day, she witnessed her classmates Bruce, Mike and John building a treehouse in Potomac Park, and decided to help them by shoplifting supplies from a hardware store. They soon became friends, and she later introduced them to David.

Unbeknownst to Bruce and John, Mike and Janis began a romantic relationship in their teenage years. One night, the two overheard David screaming for help; inside the house, they discovered that Dick had beaten David to death. Mike killed Dick with Janis's knife, but fatally stabbed Janis by accident when she tried to intervene. He stole Dick's car to drive to Potomac Park, buried Janis's body beneath their treehouse, then sank the car into the Potomac River.

The police later discovered Dick and David's bodies and named Janis as their prime suspect, citing a confrontation with police two years earlier. Using Janis's beeper, Mike impersonated her and sent a cryptic farewell message to Bruce and John, promising to contact them soon. He secretly kept her beeper and butterfly knife in his backpack, even into adulthood.

As years passed, the three friends drifted apart, although they always met once a year to fix the treehouse and commemorate Janis.

Tom Clancy's The Division: Remission[]

Following the outbreak of the Green Poison, John discovered Janis's belongings inside Mike's backpack while rescuing his friend's family from fellow Hyenas. Desperate for answers, he devised a plot to extract Mike, under the guise of a Hyena supply raid on the Theater Settlement.

A week later, John used Janis's beeper to contact Bruce, luring him to their childhood treehouse in Potomac Park. Inside, he knocked Bruce unconscious and left him tied up. He then proceeded to attack the Theater Settlement alongside the other Hyenas, stealing most of its food supplies and taking Mike back with him.

At an abandoned clinic, John interrogated Mike about finding Janis's belongings in his backpack, and he confessed to killing her. Upon hearing explosions outside, Mike begged to be killed rather than face Bruce, and John stabbed him to death. Bruce discovered John standing over Mike's body, and shot him.

Afterwards, Bruce buried Mike and John beside Janis under the treehouse and erected crosses on their graves, hanging their childhood beepers on each one. He then hung his own beeper on Janis's cross.
