The Kips Bay, a quiet neighborhood on Manhattan’s East Side, has transformed from a residential and medical hub into a contested battleground. Once known for it's proximity to the East River, historic brownstones, and the sprawling Bellevue Hospital complex, Kips Bay now lies in ruins, scarred by the Green Poison pandemic and the ensuing societal collapse.

Pre-Pandemic[]

Before the Green Poison, Kips Bay was a vibrant, densely populated residential and commercial area. Home to medical facilities like Bellevue Hospital and NYU Langone Medical Center, it was a hub for healthcare professionals, students, and middle-class families. The neighborhood's proximity to the East River offered scenic views, with landmarks like the Waterside Plaza and a mix of high-rise apartments, brownstones, and local businesses. It's quiet, unassuming character belied it's strategic importance, with key infrastructure like hospitals and access to major roadways such as the FDR Drive.

The Green Poison Outbreak[]

When the Green Poison swept through Manhattan, unleashed during a Black Friday bioterror attack, Kips Bay's medical facilities became ground zero for the crisis. Bellevue and NYU Langone were overwhelmed with infected patients, turning from sanctuaries of healing into overcrowded, contaminated death traps. The Joint Task Force (JTF), a coalition of first responders and National Guard, attempted to secure the area, setting up triage centers and quarantine zones. However, the virus's rapid spread and societal collapse eroded their control. Panicked civilians looted pharmacies and grocery stores, while others fled or barricaded themselves in apartments.

The neighborhood's strategic assets - hospitals, riverfront access, and proximity to Midtown - made it a focal point for emerging factions. The Rikers, escaped convicts from Rikers Island, saw Kips Bay as a prime territory for looting medical supplies and establishing a foothold. Their brutal raids targeted weakened JTF outposts and civilian holdouts. Meanwhile, Cleaners, a fanatical faction of former sanitation workers, roamed the streets with flamethrowers, incinerating infected bodies and anyone they deemed a threat to their vision of a "cleansed" city. The presence of these factions turned Kips Bay into a warzone, with civilians caught in the crossfire.

The federal government activated the Strategic Homeland Division (SHD), a covert group of sleeper agents tasked with restoring order. However, Kips Bay descended into chaos as society crumbled. The neighborhood's dense population and critical infrastructure made it a focal point for both survivors and opportunists.
