History[]

The L86 LSW is modeled after the British L86A2, part of the SA80 series of 5.56x45mm NATO bullpup weapons produced by the Royal Small Arms Factory and adopted by the British Army in 1987. All SA80 platforms were issued with proprietary 4x SUSAT scopes, which are absent in Tom Clancy's The Division 2.

Owing to production issues and design inexperience, the original L86 and its rifle counterpart, the L85, were riddled with flaws like frequent jamming, fragile plastic furniture, and general unreliability. The Ministry of Defence later contracted German firm Heckler & Koch to retrofit its stock of SA80s with retooled components to correct their performance, resulting in the improved A2 variant seen in-game.

Usage[]

The L86 LSW boasts an above-average fire rate and excellent handling, with its automatic fire swiftly stabilizing into an accurate stream over long range. Its major shortfall is a shallow 30-round magazine; while this does allow for faster reloads than a belt-fed weapon, it restricts the L86 to short bursts of damage and limits its potential for suppressing enemies or piercing armored targets - the traditional role of a Light Machine Gun.

The weapon should instead be employed like an oversized Assault Rifle, fired with purpose at exposed weak points or peeking heads rather than sprayed haphazardly. Its comparatively swift reload allows agents to stay on the move and catch enemies out of position, capitalizing on its bonus against targets outside of cover.
