Before the Green Poison pandemic, Liberty Island stood as a global symbol of freedom and hope. Tourists from all over the world visited the Statue of Liberty, a monument to American ideals. However, after the outbreak of the Dollar Flu, the island was swiftly abandoned and fell into disrepair, like much of New York City.
As Manhattan descended into chaos and factions fought for dominance, Liberty Island remained largely untouched - isolated, hard to access, and of little tactical value in the early months. However, its symbolic weight and strategic location eventually attracted attention from those who sought to reshape the world.
Keener’s Last Stand[]
Aaron Keener, once a Division agent, had gone rogue, believing that the old world had failed and that it was his duty to forge a new one - on his terms. After orchestrating chaos across Lower Manhattan, Keener retreated to Liberty Island and transformed it into a heavily fortified command center.
Utilizing advanced SHD Tech, rogue AI Systems, and his alliance with Cleaners, Rikers and other rogue agents, Keener turned the island into a warzone. The very place that once symbolized liberty was now the stronghold of tyranny.
He chose Liberty Island not just for its seclusion, but for its irony: the Statue of Liberty, once a beacon of hope, would now oversee the dawn of his new world order.
The Division’s Assault[]
Knowing the chaos that Keener caused, The Division ordered a manhunt to stop Keener once and for all, after his lieutenants (Vivian Conley, Theo Parnell, Javier Kajika, and James Dragov) were eliminated, Keener intended to use his new Eclipse virus to end what was left of The Division, but it all ends in a confrontation against The Division Agents where Keener is fatally injured. Agent Kelso tries to talk to him, but he activates a Network of Rogue Agents before he "dies" letting Agents know they have no idea what is coming. Keener's SHD Watch remained in possession of Division agents to know the information that Keener blocked.
In an ironic twist of fate, the Keener that Division agents fought at Liberty Island was a simulated facsimile made through tech from the Descent simulation facility, ANNA's backdoor, and a Mobile SHD Server, which the Rogue Agent used to fake his death and going into hiding.
