Maral McCarthy is a character in Tom Clancy's The Division 2. She's first featured in the comms from Year 5, Season 3: Vanguard, and is the girlfriend of Rogue Division agent Theo Parnell.
History[]
Like many in New York, Maral McCarthy was a civilian trying to survive throughout the turmoil in Lower Manhattan. Prior to the events of Warlords of New York, she was first rescued by Theo Parnell, a Rogue Division agent, from Last Man Battalion troops. Maral was rescued again by Theo, when she was being hunted by the Cleaners. With Manhattan no longer safe as it is, Theo requested his fellow rogue Aaron Keener to send Maral on a boat that will take her and other rescued civilians to Brooklyn. Keener teased Parnell, questioning him if he's mainly rescuing her because he found her cute.
Maral was eventually sent to Brooklyn and settled in well in the settlement that Keener has set up there. Thanks to encouragement from Agent Melanie Hoskins, Theo entered in a relationship with Maral. At some point, their relationship consummated with Maral becoming pregnant with Theo's child. Hoskins was worried about this, as she didn't want Theo to go through heavy things when Maral goes into labor.
Announcement and Preparations[]
During their date in a park, Maral announces to Theo that she's pregnant with their child, which was a surprise for the Rogue Agent. However, she was no under illusion about Theo's work and was content with being a single mother. However, Theo loved her a lot and wanted to care for her and their child, which Maral gladly accepted.
The news of Maral's pregnancy would also reach to both Keener and Hoskins, with the latter giving some advice in keeping both Maral and the baby safe and healthy, while Keener was selected as the "godfather" for the child. At some point, Hoskins's friend, Dr. Patricia Thompson, checked on Maral and gave her advice on keeping a healthy regimen for the baby.
After Theo survived the events in Lower Manhattan, Maral was glad to see him safe, as she was worried he could've gotten himself killed. However, she had doubts whether he's sincere about being off the field for good, knowing he'll get bored given their baby is still months away from birth.
Social Director[]
In his desire to keep his girlfriend safe, Theo requested Keener to have Maral as social director of the settlement. Keener discussed this with Bridgette Douglas, where the latter found it a bad idea and felt it'd be much safer for Maral if she was sent to Hoskin's farm.
Maral herself was also apprehensive about this, feeling like spending time with kids would make her hate kids. However, given that Hoskins, Kandel, and even Bishop weren't capable of handling children, Maral gladly accepted and took the job, while also caring for herself and the baby.
Crisis in Brooklyn[]
Maral was in the Bridge settlement when D.C Division Agents answered the distress call and helped Agent Hoskins in dealing against the rebuilt Cleaners. During the Rikers' siege on the settlement, she alongside other civilians were put in the underground bunker for safety while Hoskins and the settlement's combatants defended it. Thanks to swift timing from the D.C agents whom they flanked the hostiles and forced them into a retreat, Maral and the other civilians were saved.
Meanwhile, Theo returned to the Bridge to help the Division in ending the Cleaners/Rikers collab and stopping Black Tusk. With that crisis resolved, Theo returned to keep things safe in the Bridge while caring for his girlfriend, who is weeks away from giving birth.
Trivia[]
- Maral can be seen in the Bridge settlement, mostly in the area that has a kids classroom and a playground, where she often can be seen sitting and reading a book. In addition to her pregnancy, she is also wearing the Division's smart-watch on her right arm and an ISAC brick on her left arm.
- It's unknown if she's officially a Division agent, as it is probable she's wearing those two devices to stay in contact with Theo, whenever he's away.
