As Manny rebuilds the Castle Settlement, he recruits the reunited Mel and Jack to run food production and storage. Prior to the Green Poison, Mel was a professional writer publishing non-fiction works about green and sustainable living and fictional work where they could put those principles into practice.

Some fans saw Mel's works as a sort of prophetic bible for how to build a better future. One particularly deranged fan, Cassandra Raines, wanted Mel to join her movement. Mel declined but was always warry.

History[]

Before the Green Poison, Mel made their living as a professional writer, writing non-ficiton works about green and sustainable living as well as writing fictional works that put those principles to practice. Their work attracted a number of fans ,and some of them saw Mel's work as a bible on how to build a better future. One deranged fan, Cassandra Raines, wanted Mel to join her movement, though Mel declined, feeling wary.

When the crisis came, Mel stayed behind while their wife, Jack, joined the JTF to maintain order in D.C. When Jack's convoy Proteus Squad goes missing, they ask Manny Ortega to look into it, though Manny was confused as he didn't send Proteus Squad to Kenly College. Some time later, Mel asks Manny again about Jack's whereabouts, but Manny explains he can't send a squad due to resource shortages nor he can force Division agents to missions. Mel rebuked, telling Manny that he has a responsibility for his people and demands him to have Division agents rescue their wife.

Eventually, Mel reunites with their wife, Jack, after the Division agents rescued her at Kenly College. Months later, a call came in from Manny to rebuild the Castle, Mel and Jack were recruited to the settlement to run food production and storage.

By the time Black Tusk attacked the White House, Mel and Jack were among the kidnapped civilians.

Puppeteers[]

After Cindy McAllister was rescued, Division agents went to rescue Mel Arnold, combing through the Foggy Bottom area and eventually find them held at Roosevelt Island. After dealing with True Sons forces, they eventually find Mel and extract them from the island

Settling again in the Castle, Mel was debriefed by Manny regarding Brian Johnson's whereabouts and whether the agent could do anything about the mobile SHD server. However, Mel was more focused about their wife's whereabouts, and tells Manny to focus on the people he's supposed to serve and not the conspiracy that isn't there.

With Mel rescued, they're focused on working in the Castle as a farmer, running food production and storage.

Candidate for Recruitment[]

During the Division's incursions in the Descent simulation facility, they interceped a comm where Aaron Keener and Bridgette Douglas discuss about recruiting Mel Arnold. Keener thinks they're an excellent asset given their exprience in speculative fiction writing, sustainability, and gardening, which would help minds and bodies in his settlement, believing that Mel's skills has more worth than their baggage.

Douglas, on the other hand, was apprehensive, mentioning Mel had a fair share of stalkers, where Keener asked rhetorically that no one worth their salt didn't have stalkers to deal with, a notion that Douglas protest against, arguing that stalking is not a compliment.

Then, Douglas mentions Cassandra Raines, a fanatical fan of Mel's work, had built a cult called the Reborn. This gave Keener an opportunity, which led Douglas to believe he's building a cult. Keener insisted he's not building a cult, but thinks there's a lot of benefits in having one in their back-pocket. then asked Douglas of their location. She reveals that the Reborn are setting up shop in Louisiana, but they've been moving west since the hurricane.
