The New York Police Department is the police department for the city of New York in Tom Clancy's The Division.
Description
The New York City Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency within the city of New York. The NYPD does not play a major role within the Division, though many surviving members of the department can be seen as part of the JTF or as corpses around the city. Various police vehicles will always be seen parked in the streets either in good or damaged condition. There are a few Police Stations that are present in the game along with the Police Academy. The only named member of the NYPD within the game is Captain Roy Benitez, a former narcotics officer before the outbreak and the current leader of the JTF.
Green Poison Outbreak
During the outbreak, The NYPD was unable to maintain control of New York. As the attacks spread into the city, there has been a lack of police officers responding to the 911 calls from people who are being attacked by criminals like Rikers, and Rioters due to the streets being clogged with vehicles which made the officers not be able to drive their squad cars to the scene. After the NYPD presence went completely disappeared and lost control of the city, Captain Roy Benitez formed the Joint Task Force to maintain control of the streets instead. However, the JTF later lost control of the city again and became weakened after withdrawing its troops from the Dark Zone in Manhattan. As a result, the city turns into a death trap for its civilians. A city with less law enforcement and more criminal activities.

- It is possible that the surviving NYPD officers either joined the Joint Task Force, MIA, or KIA, or pulled out of Manhattan.
- The NYPD logo used in the game is a parody of the real-life version. The real reason why the logo and the police car looks are different from the real one because it is trademarked.
- If the player enters the Base of Operations after progressing through a moderate portion of the game, NYPD officers will begin to spawn within the building. These officers wear standard issue uniforms more fitting with normal Police Officers instead of those adopted by ex-members who joined the JTF.
- The New York City Sheriff's Department (NYSD) and New York State Police (NYSP) are both law enforcement agencies that operate within the city of New York but are never mentioned. Despite this, uniforms from both departments can be obtained by purchasing the Season Pass, as well as S.W.A.T. and a Motorcycle Officer's uniform.
