“ Ryan Chang, Callsign Mercury. Was marked rouge for torturing and executing prisoners. This one's from our own backyard and a real piece of shit. ”
Ryan Chang, callsign Mercury, was one of four lieutenants of Molly "Jupiter" Henderson in the Shadow Tide season.
He was the one who came up with the Milky Way callsign premise to ensure absolute secrecy in Jupiter's ranks.
Biography[]
Ryan Chang was recruited by The Division from the military after earning a Silver Star in Afghanistan. Ryan left the military and became a marketing manager for a tactical equipment company. Ryan was activated as part of The Division’s Second Wave but was marked as rogue after reportedly torturing and executing prisoners. Ryan has been described as intelligent and calculating with a tendency for violent outbursts. Peer reviews regularly describe him as a bit difficult to work with.
History[]
Before he went rogue, he argued against Alani Kelso moving the supplies to the cargo plane (the same cargo plane that crashed on Roosevelt Island). He argued that those supplies could be used to fight the True Sons and Hyenas. Not long after, he was marked rogue for torturing and executing prisoners
Before their operation began, Chang was contacted by Molly Henderson (callsign Jupiter). Due to operational security, they both agreed to use code-names. Chang suggested to use planets after his visit from a planetarium a week earlier, and he was always intrigued by Mercury.
After Henderson arrived in Washington, D.C. to carry out rogue agent Aaron Keener's plan to attack the city, she reached out to Chang and welcomed him as a new member.
Chang eventually initiated his attack on Washington, D.C. He commanded a group of True Sons, and they took over multiple strategic sites, including the Capitol Building, Lincoln Memorial, Space Administration HQ and Air and Space Museum, as well as their representative control points in their area.
Eventually, The Division managed to intercept Mercury and cleared out all the assault and liberated the occupation. Chang was eventually located in the East Mall, and was killed by The Division.
