The SMG-9 is a Submachine Gun in Tom Clancy's The Division 2.
All variants of this weapon can be obtained from enemies, vendors, weapon chests, Sealed Caches, and any area/mission with Submachine Guns as targeted loot.
Replicas of the Converted SMG-9 can be crafted using its Blueprint, which is available by default.
History[]
The SMG-9 is based on the Intratec TEC-9 and its Mini variant, a series of semi-automatic pistols introduced in 1984. The gun's cheap construction makes it simple to repair and, infamously, modify for automatic fire - hence, its "Converted" moniker. This was no doubt aided by its large 20- and 32-round magazines, more commonly seen in machine pistols.
Its use in gang conflicts and public shootings in the 80's and 90's tied the TEC-9 with criminal elements in pop culture, and it was banned - often by name - in several U.S. states. This eventually drove Intratec to bankruptcy, leading to a decline in the build quality of later models due to quality control cutbacks.
Usage[]
The SMG-9 is the archetypal 'bullet hose', rapidly spraying rounds with a wide spread. Its wild reticle bloom makes it difficult to reliably hit weak points located on an enemy's backside or between small openings, and plenty of ammunition will be wasted in the attempt.
Instead, agents should use doorways or around corners to force enemies into close range, spraying them down in succession before slowly changing magazines. The SMG-9 has the slowest reload time of any Submachine Gun (tied with the Vector SBR 9mm), so Attachments, a Talent like Fast Hands, or the Hunter's Fury Gear Set will help the SMG-9 buy the time to reload between kills.
Variants[]
Converted SMG-9 A2[]
The full-length Converted SMG-9 A2 includes added rails for optic and barrel attachments. It used by Veteran/Elite Riker Rushers.
Converted SMG-9 []
The miniaturized variant with a shorter barrel and lower Stability. It is used by Veteran/Elite Hyena Shields, True Son Shields during Operation Iron Horse, and Named Riker bosses Ron and Knuckles, whose versions include custom black-light laser attachments.
