History[]

The SPAS-12 is an Italian combat shotgun produced by Luigi Franchi S.p.A. from 1979 to 2000. Owing to its design for both police and military use, it can switch between either semi-automatic fire (for standard shells/slugs) or pump-action cycling (for specialist/nonlethal ammunition); in Tom Clancy's The Division 2, however, the gun is solely pump-action.

The earliest SPAS-12 models came with a fixed stock and pistol grip, as seen in-game with the Exotic variant, Lullaby. Later revisions replaced it with a folding metal stock and detachable arm hook for one-handed use, such as when firing from a vehicle or while holding a riot shield.

Usage[]

The SPAS-12 is the Shotgun of choice for extended firefights, offering nearly best-in-class damage (second only to the Double Barrel Shotgun) paired with a large eight-round capacity that can last an entire firefight without running dry. It also has nearly zero recoil - useful when focusing fire on highly mobile targets like Warhounds or Hunters, who can shrug off multiple shells without breaking stride.

Agents should stay mindful to keep the weapon topped up, however, as slowly reloading all eight shells one-by-one can prove deadly while under fire. Its lengthy pause between shots may also spell trouble against threats like Rushers or explosive Drones, which can swiftly close the gap and deal heavy damage before the gun has finished cycling. An effective tactic is to briefly stun an approaching target with blindfire before popping out of cover to aim the killing blow, minimizing the time spent exposed during the pump animation.
