History[]

The Super 90 is an Italian shotgun produced by Benelli Aomi SpA in 1993. The model used in Tom Clancy's The Division 2, the M4, was conceived in response to the United States Marines’ call for a new combat shotgun to supplant the aging M500, with requirements including semi-automatic fire and ability to mount optics. That same year, the Super 90 was adopted by the U.S. Army as the “M1014”.

One of the shotgun’s distinguishing traits is its ‘auto-regulating gas-operated’ system, or ARGO, which provides more reliable cycling and reduces fouling. It can also cycle multiple ammo types without needing adjustments or reverting to pump-action.

Usage[]

The Super 90 is a well-rounded weapon with decent handling across the board - not as powerful as other tube-fed Shotguns like the M870 or SPAS-12, but able to fire follow-up shots without the delay inherent to pump-action designs. This, combined with its tight spread, gives the weapon a surprising effective range, though distant enemies may take its entire tube magazine to bring down.

For best results, the Super 90 should be fired from cover, where slowly reloading it shell-by-shell is less risky, and its rapid cycling allows for effective blind-fire over obstacles or around corners. Dash between pieces of cover to minimize exposure before popping out to deliver volleys of buckshot, ensuring enemies staggered by the initial blast get no chance to recover.
