Set in Washington, D.C. six months after the outbreak of Green Poison, the story follows three survivors, once childhood friends--Bruce, an agent for the Strategic Homeland Division; Mike, a civilian; and John, a member of the Hyenas. Their paths deviate as they find themselves entangled in the vicious warfare between factions vying for control of the Capitol.

Plot[]

In Washington, D.C., Hyenas attack Mount Vernon Square and take the local residents hostage, bringing them to the Lincoln Memorial for a public execution. One of the residents, Mike, hides his wife and daughter in a panic room at his house before he is abducted. En route, he uses a beeper to ask for help from his childhood friends: Bruce, a Division agent, and John, a member of the Hyenas.

Bruce and several other agents arrive at the Memorial in time to rescue Mike and the other hostages. As the agents escort them to the Theater Settlement, Mike contacts John, asking him to rescue his family from the panic room.

After sleeping with Katy, a fellow Division agent, Bruce tells her about his past with Mike and John: as children, the three of them once had another friend, Janis, who helped them build a treehouse in Potomac Park. Together, they helped Janis protect her younger brother, David, from their abusive father, Dick. However, one night, the police found both Dick and David dead in their home, and Janis gone. She sent the boys a cryptic farewell message via beeper, promising to contact them soon. As years passed, the three friends then drifted apart, though they always met once a year to commemorate Janis.

John arrives at Mike's house to discover other Hyenas attempting to break into the panic room. Failing to talk them down, he kills them and collects Mike's family. As they prepare to escape, a stray bullet pierces Mike's old backpack; inside, John is shocked to find Janis's old beeper and butterfly knife.

Returning to the Hyenas' stronghold, John is seized by the other Hyenas and brought to their leader, Jaw, to account for killing his fellow pack members. John lies that they interfered with his plan to trick Mike into believing his family is being held hostage, then use him as an insider to raid the Theater Settlement. Intrigued, Jaw tempts John with a seat on the Hyena Council if his plan succeeds.

A week later, Bruce receives a beeper message from Janis, asking to meet at their childhood treehouse. He rushes to Potomac Park at night, but is attacked inside the treehouse and knocked unconscious. He awakens the next day and returns to find the Theater has been ransacked by Hyenas, with Mike gone and Katy in critical condition. Before dying, Katy tells Bruce that Mike had tipped off the Hyenas to help them plan their attack; afterwards, Bruce discovers that Katy had been pregnant with his child.

After a violent tantrum, Bruce leaves the Theater and goes to Mike's home, collecting the IDs of the Hyenas that John had killed. With the help of Odessa Sawyer, he tracks down one of their families at the Stanton Park Refugee Camp, who identifies Jaw as the Hyenas' leader. Bruce and the other Division agents then launch an assault on Jaw's stronghold, and successfully capture Jaw and the other Hyenas.

Meanwhile, John interrogates Mike about finding Janis's belongings in his backpack. Mike confesses the truth: as teenagers, he and Janis had begun a romantic relationship. When the two of them witnessed Dick beat David to death, Mike killed him with Janis's knife, but fatally stabbed Janis by accident as she tried to intervene. He then impersonated her final message and buried her body beneath their treehouse.

Upon hearing explosions as the Division agents approach, Mike begs to be killed rather than face Bruce, and John stabs him to death. Bruce discovers John standing over Mike's body and shoots him. Mortally wounded, John shares the truth about Janis, and reveals that he lured Bruce away from the Theater to protect him from the Hyenas' attack. With his dying breath, he asks to be buried next to Janis.

Afterwards, Bruce buries Mike and John beside Janis under the treehouse, As he reminisces over them, his Smart Watch receives an alert, and he makes his way back towards the city.
