Wright was a high-ranking Commander of the Cleaners, secretly working for Natalya Sokolova and Calvin McManus as a Hunter. He was also the second boss encounter in the Paradise Lost Incursion.
History[]
Wright's past before joining the ranks of the Cleaners is mostly unknown, except for the fact he is well acquainted with both Black Tusk CEO Natalya Sokolova and Secretary of Homeland Security Calvin McManus, having worked for them in the past under uncertain circumstances. At some point, he'd be later recruited to the Hunter Program, becoming as one of its agents.
During the events of Puppeteers, Wright gets a call from Sokolova, asking him to "check up" on Mackenzie Meret, Meret Estate heiress and Natalya's long-time friend. After some time, he confirms her current status as the leader of a civilian community built inside the estate's perimeter, when the businesswoman then asks him to raid the place with his Cleaners and kidnap her. Wright accepts, while also asking for "extra protection only a certain wealthy benefactor could get access to", as he had promised to the Cleaner couple known as "The Lovebirds", Natalya asks him if he meant her or Calvin, to which the Cleaner says Calvin's connections are harder to track and can be easily mistaken for SHD tech made by Conley as part of the Rogue Network's plans.
After successfully getting access to customized SHD Tech supplied by McManus (in reality, it was The Rat Queen, as she stole two Rogue SHD Tech crates from the Bridge and gave it Danvers to supply the Cleaners for their attack), Wright presents the Lovebirds Martinez and Johnson with their new "Kids", revealing to them that he even managed to get Johnson a Rogue Agent Status on ISAC's network. Additionally, he was given an armor lined up with the heat guard and fire retardant developed by Matthew Grant, which allowed Wright to protect him from the "Purple Flame" enveloped in his armor. However, his armor could ignite a chemical reaction that goes volatile when it gets wet, as Grant warned him not to get wet in the rain.
Wright, the Lovebirds and their Cleaner cell attack the Meret Estate with full force, hoping to eliminate the community and Wright, in secret, attempting to kidnap the heiress herself, and bring her to Natalya. Despite killing multiple Division agents present on-site, Wright is killed in action by a team of backup agents that arrive just in time to stop his plans.
The stolen Rogue SHD Tech[]
By the end of Battle for Brooklyn's campaign and Richard Danvers was off the board, Division agents recovered a found footage video where it revealed that the Rogue SHD Tech that Wright loaned to The Lovebirds were from The Bridge settlement, in which the "Rat Queen" stole at least crate or two and given it to Danvers, to help him for the test-run of the "Purple Flame" on the Meret Estate.
Abilities[]
In-game, Wright is a unique Cleaners Tank, armed with a unique set of abilities:
Hellfire Hunter Axe[]
- Wright's main weapon is a large hunter axe lit up in powerful purple flames, same as the rest of his body. Swings from his axe can not only shoot a mid-ranged wave of flames but also hit a large area around him.
Greek Fire Protection[]
- Wright's entire body is covered in purple-colored flames, which he calls "Greek Flames", that are extremely lethal to anyone standing near him. These are also powerful enough to melt any incoming projectiles and must be put out using the boss room's sprinkler system, which is manually activated, in order to make him vulnerable.
Hellfire Grenades[]
- Wright is also equipped with powerful Incendiary Grenades.
Greek Fire Bomb[]
- Whenever he gets enraged or, sometimes, during the switch between phases of his fight, Wright will deploy a canister of purple gas, which he can detonate to momentarily light up the whole room with his purple "Greek Fire".
Trivia[]
- Wright is the first ever shown Hunter who is not (directly) affiliated with the Black Tusk.
- Completing Wright's boss fight flawlessly (meaning none of the agents can be downed during the encounter) will unlock the "Wright the Hellfire" backpack trophy, which is a small Chiby toy of Wright himself holding his axe.
- Completing the entire Paradise Lost incursion flawlessly (none of the agents can be downed during the whole incursion) will unlock the "Wright Mask" for the player.
- The in-game subtitles simply refer to him as "Hellfire" instead of his actual name.
- It is currently unknown, but highly plausible, that Wright's armor uses internal fuel to upkeep Greek fire protection, considering the fact he explodes upon enough damage. It is also unknown how he survives the extreme heat (as no amount of insulation would be enough that close to the body), though some have argued it is by sheer force of will. Another possibility could be congenital analgesia, an extraordinarily rare condition in which a person cannot feel physical pain.
- In the Brooklyn: Hostiles comm "Meret" from the Battle for Brooklyn DLC, it was confirmed that Wright's armor was designed with regular Cleaner gear, but lined with the heat guard and coated in Matthew Grant's proprietary fire retardant. The main flaw that Wright's armor ignites a chemical reaction that goes volatile when getting wet, which proved to be his downfall when the Division eliminated him using the emergency water sprinkles against him.
- In Descent comm "Purple Stuff", Aaron Keener confirms Wright was indeed a Hunter.
